A landmark in menopause care: Newson Health Menopause & Wellbeing Centre

I am so pleased to announce the launch of my Newson Health Menopause & Wellbeing Centre which was officially, and very kindly, opened by award-winning wellbeing expert Liz Earle MBE on 26 September 2018. I was so lucky to have my colleagues, friends and family join me in celebrating the opening. I am also proud and excited to say the clinic is the first of its kind in this country.

Newson Health Clinic Launch

What’s in it for YOU?
This has been a real labour of love for me and is the culmination of my work as a GP where I was overwhelmed by women asking me to help them navigate their way through all the myriad perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms from hot flushes, to insomnia, anxiety and vaginal dryness.

We counsel patients on the best treatments from HRT, to recommendations on how to lower stress and treatments for vaginal discomfort through dryness with products such as non-hormonal long-lasting vaginal moisturisers, like Regelle. There are very few centres offering personalised treatment for perimenopausal and menopausal women. This means that many women are finding themselves confused and at a loss as to what was happening to them in their 40s and 50s. In my menopause clinic in Solihull I was seeing around 30 women a week looking for reassurance and practical solutions and now at my new Menopause and Wellbeing Centre, and with my fellow GPs on hand to help (all female and with a special interest in the menopause) we should be able to treat around 30 women a day!

Seeing a doctor is just one part of what we offer in our centre. We know there isn’t a “one size fits all” solution when it comes to menopause. The whole ethos of my Centre is that, as normal and natural as the perimenopause and menopause is, every woman experiences it differently and we want to help women by providing a personalised plan for everyone who comes through the door. All clients are given a one to one consultation and provided with a bespoke treatment plan put together by our talented team and incorporating a diverse range of treatments and holistic therapies including:

• advice on HRT
• acupuncture
• psychotherapy
• counselling
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
• hypnotherapy
• sleep advice
• nutritional advice
• yoga
• pelvic floor physiotherapy

A positive experience
From our doctors to our fitness instructors and nutritionists, it is our overwhelming aim to help women experience their menopause positively. I am keenly aware from my work that it can be the psychological and emotional symptoms, like anxiety, inability to concentrate and brain fog, that can be more concerning and debilitating than the physical ones. Here at the Menopause and Wellbeing Centre we aim to tackle both the physical and psychological worries with a completely holistic and individualised care package.

Finding sanctuary
We will also be running Wellness Retreat weekends which we hope will give women the space to talk about their experiences and feel reassured by others. And it is not just about discussing all things menopausal – the Centre with its zen-like calm is set in the beautiful Warwickshire countryside and in the birthplace of William Shakespeare where a visit to the theatre or local art gallery can be as much as part of your treatment as a nutritional and/or fitness plan, say. Everything is tailored to what you need and want to make your perimenopause and menopause more manageable.

My hope is that the Newson Health Menopause & Wellbeing Centre becomes a sanctuary for women whose day to day lives are adversely affected by perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms. It is a place they can visit knowing they are being listened to, where they can share their experiences and leave feeling ultimately more positive, upbeat and better equipped to deal with their changing body and mind.
